Job Description
Crane Operator Operates cranes with telescoping and lattice booms to load, unload, transport, and position large freight and equipment at various job sites under the following conditions. Examines cables for signs of wear and replaces them as necessary. The ideal candidate will be able to use cranes with telescoping and lattice booms to load, unload, move, and put huge items and equipment. Qualifications:
- All of the following tasks must be completed: procure and verify rigging, connect rigging to load, assess travel path, blast whistle, tell crane operator, direct load to destination, install load, detach rigging, and return to storage rack.
- Using the control panel, you can keep track of activities and make modifications to the process. All jobs are completed in compliance with safety regulations and legislation, and preventative maintenance is carried out.
- This job demands the ability to read and understand instruction manuals, blueprints, drawings, and specifications, as well as the capacity to calculate load weights, wire, sheaves, and fitting sizes using arithmetic.
- The applicant is able to work in all weather conditions, and any concerns are notified immediately. Executes various duties as directed by superiors or the organization.
- Work with riggers and truck drivers to lift products and other cargo using radio or visual signals and other means of communication.
- Understand and adhere to all company, customer, and health/safety guidelines, as well as any other relevant regulations, such as weight and size limitations.
- When the obligations of the Crane Operator are done, and the workload for the primary job above allows, he undertakes the duties of a Rigger.
- Climb a 25-foot vertical ladder to examine the crane and cab, fill out inspection papers, operate the crane (4 hand levers, 1 foot brake), and fill steel orders.
- During a routine inspection, the crane operator notifies any damaged or malfunctioning components. It’s time to clean and lubricate the crane.
- For this work, you’ll need a rigger operating manual, chains, nylon slings, pallet lifters, magnets, vacuum lifters, posi-turner, spreader bar, softeners, tape measure, hammer, punches, pliers, crescent wrench, and paint stick marker.
Skills:

- This profession necessitates knowledge of complex equipment operation.
- The ability to ensure that safety and housekeeping regulations are followed, machine capacities aren’t exceeded, and tools, supplies, and equipment are appropriately stored and accounted for at the conclusion of each workday is essential.
- NCCCO or CIC certification is necessary. The Department of Transportation’s (DOT) medical card is valid. Certifications or permissions from the Safety Department, Equipment Manager, or Operations Manager are necessary. A license is required by the local jurisdiction (DC requires operators to be licensed). It is necessary to pass the practical test.
- It is necessary to have prior experience operating a cab and bridge crane (or a crane of a similar type) from heights of 30 feet or more and spans of 60 feet or more.
