Job Description
The Proofreader, who reports to the Senior Director of Marketing and Public Relations, plays a critical role in the delivery of performance-driven content across a wide range of channels, including but not limited to email, social media, advertising campaigns, collateral, blogs, magazines, executive presentations, faculty-contributed content, case studies, landing pages, press releases, internal communications, and more. The ideal candidate will have a firm grasp of both fundamental and advanced grammar rules, as well as an understanding of how they are applied in our house styles. They are thorough in their proofreading, catching typos and other problems in grammar, spelling, and usage and can verify the veracity of claims. They need to coordinate well with the writers and the rest of the employees to ensure that all documents adhere to company policy. When faced with editorial difficulties, they will go outside the box and come up with novel solutions. They need to show up to work with a good mood and be a true team player during the editing process. They’ll be reliable, hardworking, and trustworthy people with initiative and sound judgment.

Qualifications:
- Interact with personnel, lawyers, and management to comprehend work assignments and express any modifications to papers that need to be made.
- Keep a record of everything you edit for spelling and grammar.
- Competence with Windows and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required; familiarity with the web is a bonus.
- Possess a strong command of the English language, along with exceptional organizational, interpersonal, communication, and verbal skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects at once with ease.
- Use electronic work logs, instant messaging, track changes for comments, and ChangePro for electronic review to speed up your proofreading and copyediting tasks.
- Make adjustments to original hard copy papers or electronic copies by conducting research on any spelling, grammatical, or word usage issues. Assist the department manager, if necessary, in developing writing guidelines or style advice for the department.
- Read over documents and check for spelling and grammar errors. Mark any mistakes in the document using the appropriate proofreading symbol.
- Mark up the original copy or drafts for correction if there are any grammatical, typographical, or compositional errors.
- Proofreading experience; ideally within a legal setting; at least five years’ worth.
- Return the papers that have been marked for correction, and then compare the revised versions.
